IDSteeringcolumnresto

The restoration of the scruffy dashboard took place in early 2012 and was a fairly major undertaking.

Because I wanted to get the delicate aliminium steering shroud trim polished I had to remove the remove the steering column (which is in unit with the steering wheel).

While it was out I realised how badly damaged the paintwork was (mainly to poor adjustment of the panels around the column); so I sanded it down, masked it up, and sprayed it 'racking' grey (which is quite a bit lighter than the original grey). The column tube (in the engine bay) got the same treatment, and I carefully cleaned several other associated components.

After the whole dash had been restored, re-fitting and adjusting the steering column was undertaken very carefully. This particular ID19 has the optional steering column lock which adds a further level of complication.
