IDswitchcleaning

Dashboard restoration.

I acquired another LHD dashboard from a 1967 DS Pallas, with the intention that I might convert the ID19 to the elegant 'swoopy' DS-type dash. However, apart from the fact that the conversion was going to prove far from straightforward because of various differences behind the panel, this DS dash was too rusty (the car had been in a field for 25+ years) and it was missing too many pieces to make it possible.

However it did yield a miriad of spares; so I spent a happy evening cleaning and testing 2 sets of switches and other components, and rebuilt an ignition switch (this had been faulty on the ID19).

This allowed me to have some extra switches in the dash, as well as going slightly 'non-standard' with the layout - I still get slightly confused with the function of some switches, because of course nothing is labelled . . .

Amongst other things I also dismantled, cleaned, painted (brown) and reassembled the speedometer unit, replacing the clear plastic panel with the Km numbers on with the DS item which includes the pretty orange braking distance markers (however spurious these might be in use).
