Dashboard restoration.

One thing I pondered when dismantling the dashboard was what to do about the battered radio slot. I could have bought a good used radio box (for upwards of 40 euros), but I eventually decided to take a more radical route . . .

I didn't need the ash-tray; so I cut out the division between the ash-tray hole and the radio hole and asked my friend Ian Broscombe to fabricate a removeable angled steel panel to house a modern american radio. Because the controls are on wires, they can be mounted almost anywhere in relation to the head unit - so they are both on the left side.

This radio has a remote input module (with 3.5mm jack, USB and even SD card), which I have mounted inside the glove box (so iPod etc. can stay out of view) along with an extra 12v socket.
