Dashboard restoration (too much detail?).

Well, I think NOT too much detail - as this is fundamental advice, useful for maintaining any DS/ID.

When the screen has been taken out and put back in - the last thing you need to discover is that water is leaking in behind the dashboard . . .

Before bolting the lower screen rubber and clamp strip back in, I applied some guttering adhesive below and above the rubber, to ensure a good seal. This comes in cartridge or squeezy tube, and is a black non-setting oil-based mastic which has very good long-term water-proofing properties (and it's cheaply available from a certain retailer which sells screws).
